Royal Mail pickup points at Shopify checkout: what UK merchants need to know

Shopify has added Royal Mail as a pickup point provider across the UK. Customers can now choose where to collect their order from a map or a list at checkout, and they can see what each location offers before they commit. For UK brands that care about delivery choice and conversion, it is a small change in the admin with a visible effect at the point of purchase.

What it is

Royal Mail is now available as a pickup point provider in the UK. Instead of only offering home delivery, a store can let customers collect from a nearby pickup location. At checkout the customer picks a location from either a map or a list. For each one they can see the name, the address, the opening hours and the price, so there are no surprises after they have chosen.

Shopify announced the update in its changelog on 15 October 2026, filed as an improvement to the admin.

How to access it

Setup happens in the Shopify admin, in your shipping settings:

  • Go to Settings, then Shipping and delivery, and open Pickup points under Additional delivery methods.
  • Choose a UK location and turn on shipping to pickup points from that location.
  • Edit the shipping rate to include Royal Mail, then set the price you want to charge.

Shopify also links to a Help Center article on the Royal Mail shipping carrier, in its domestic shipping section, for further detail.

Limits and caveats

The announcement is short on detail, so it is worth being clear about what it does not say. Pickup points are offered for UK locations. The entry does not list plan requirements, usage limits or other restrictions, and it does not say how pickup point pricing interacts with your existing rates beyond the instruction to edit the shipping rate. Before you roll this out to a live store, check the Help Center article and test the checkout flow yourself.

What it means for merchants

Delivery choice is part of the checkout experience, and pickup points give customers a way to avoid missed deliveries or collect on their own schedule. Showing the address, opening hours and price up front helps customers decide with confidence. You also control the price you charge, so you can decide whether to subsidise pickup, match your standard delivery rate or charge a different amount.

For fashion, streetwear and sportswear brands, where delivery and returns are often part of the purchase decision, it is worth considering whether a pickup option suits your customers. It will not suit every brand, and the decision should rest on your own order and delivery data rather than on the existence of a new option.

What it means for agencies and partners

This is a configuration change rather than a build, which makes it a quick win to raise with UK clients. The practical work is in the details: choosing which locations should offer pickup, setting a sensible rate, and checking the checkout experience on mobile and desktop. If you manage shipping settings for clients, add pickup points to your review checklist and confirm the rate changes are communicated to the wider team.

How we would approach it

  1. Review your current delivery mix and ask whether customers would value a collection option.
  2. Read the Shopify Help Center article on the Royal Mail carrier so you know the constraints before you change anything.
  3. Turn on pickup points for one UK location and set a price you are comfortable with.
  4. Place test orders and check the map, the list and the details shown to customers.
  5. Watch checkout completion and delivery-related support queries, then decide whether to extend it to other locations.

The short version

Royal Mail pickup points are now available at Shopify checkout for UK locations. Customers choose from a map or list and see name, address, opening hours and price before they commit. You switch it on under Shipping and delivery, choose a UK location and add Royal Mail to a shipping rate at a price you set. The announcement does not list plan requirements or limits, so test before you launch.
